Why we built this

Varanasi is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities — and finding the right place to stay here has never been straightforward. The big OTAs list a fraction of what's actually available. The family-run hotels tucked into Godowlia's lanes, the heritage haveli stays near the ghats, the home-cooked-meals homestays in residential pockets — most of them never make it onto Booking.com or MakeMyTrip.

We built StayInVaranasi because the city deserves a stay platform that knows it. A platform where a pilgrim looking for a hotel room with a Ganga view, a parent visiting a BHU student, and a traveller wanting a family-run homestay near the ghats can all find what they need — and where local hosts can list for free without paying commissions to faceless aggregators.

Our mission

To make finding a hotel or homestay in Varanasi transparent, local, and fair:

• Transparent pricing — exact nightly rates, no hidden fees, no surge pricing tricks
• Manually reviewed listings — every hotel and homestay goes through human approval before going live; no bot-spam, no fake amenities
• Free for hosts — no listing fees, no monthly subscriptions, no commission on bookings
• Side-by-side comparison — compare up to 3 stays on a single screen instead of flipping between tabs
• Local depth — we cover every Varanasi locality (Assi Ghat, Dashashwamedh, Lanka/BHU, Sarnath, Godowlia, Cantonment, Sigra, Maldahiya), not just the tourist hotspots

How we vet listings

Every property submitted by a host goes through a manual review by our team before it appears publicly. We check that the photos match the property description, that the address is accurate, that the amenities listed are actually present, and that the contact details work. Listings that don't meet our standards are sent back to the host with feedback.

This means it can take 24-48 hours for a new listing to go live — but it also means travellers can trust what they see.

Our story (so far)

StayInVaranasi launched in 2026 as a small, focused project. We're not VC-backed, we're not trying to "disrupt" anything, and we don't have hundreds of cities on our roadmap. We just want to do one thing well: make Varanasi accommodation easier to find, compare, and book — for both travellers and hosts.

The platform is built on Laravel, hosted in India, and operated from Varanasi itself. We're early stage, growing one verified listing at a time.

What's next

Over the coming months we'll be focused on growing our verified inventory across all eight major Varanasi localities, building out long-form locality guides for travellers, integrating real-time price comparison with Airbnb and Booking.com (already live at /live), and opening up host onboarding to anyone with a property in Varanasi.
